If you take the writer’s journey, there’s some equipment you’re going to need. The first is authenticity, the second is motion. That means, not only do you need to write from who you are, from what you know, but write from who you are going to be, and what you are going to know. That is an honest writer’s bread and salt. You need to anticipate, and serve, your own development. Achieve this, and you’ll have created a special passage for your readers to walk through. This is how a writer touches lives; this is how we serve the reader.
But you don’t need to be a philosopher, or a mythologist, to be a good writer. However, it is good to have a basic cognitive understanding of the journey – that is, from thought, to books bought. I am fortunate, because I studied European philosophy as part of my arts degree. Now I’m writing this article, which hopes to give other writers the barest bones of what they ought to know (if they don’t, the best will intuitively know it, anyway).
